I hate Watson

Columbusites have already heard me bitch about the IBM computer, who had home field advantages of all sorts. Most importantly was the signalling which is the most critical part of Jeopardy! Anyways, here is a fun little essay by Ken Jennings about the experience.

"Watson has lots in common with a top-ranked human Jeopardy! player: It's very smart, very fast, speaks in an uneven monotone, and has never known the touch of a woman. But unlike us, Watson cannot be intimidated. It never gets cocky or discouraged. It plays its game coldly, implacably, always offering a perfectly timed buzz when it's confident about an answer. Jeopardy! devotees know that buzzer skill is crucial—games between humans are more often won by the fastest thumb than the fastest brain. This advantage is only magnified when one of the "thumbs" is an electromagnetic solenoid trigged by a microsecond-precise jolt of current. I knew it would take some lucky breaks to keep up with the computer, since it couldn't be beaten on speed."

Hey Pat

Here's what I think of your post.

Next time get some titles, content, and colon-cleansing fiber in there.

Food Stuff

Many of you may have seen this, but I like this article. It's not pedantic, and yet stills punctures some of the sanctimony of vegans, which I always enjoy.

Although it doesn't bring up the most import fact about meat, i.e. that it is delicious.

Lastly, here's a pic of Bob Ross. I got to use my Anderson Varejao wig (12-13-2006 NEVER FORGET) for it.

FUN FACT

For a little paper I'm writing about user tagging, I was looking at some of the tags applied to Dan Brown's new novel The Lost Symbol. The best by far is that he has been dubbed by someone "the jimmy buffet of literature" [sic] While the point is valid, it might carry more heft if Buffett were spelled correctly.

In conclusion
+ =

Long live pointless user tags, such as these
