I hate Watson

Columbusites have already heard me bitch about the IBM computer, who had home field advantages of all sorts. Most importantly was the signalling which is the most critical part of Jeopardy! Anyways, here is a fun little essay by Ken Jennings about the experience.

"Watson has lots in common with a top-ranked human Jeopardy! player: It's very smart, very fast, speaks in an uneven monotone, and has never known the touch of a woman. But unlike us, Watson cannot be intimidated. It never gets cocky or discouraged. It plays its game coldly, implacably, always offering a perfectly timed buzz when it's confident about an answer. Jeopardy! devotees know that buzzer skill is crucial—games between humans are more often won by the fastest thumb than the fastest brain. This advantage is only magnified when one of the "thumbs" is an electromagnetic solenoid trigged by a microsecond-precise jolt of current. I knew it would take some lucky breaks to keep up with the computer, since it couldn't be beaten on speed."

I don't have to care about football.

It's still September. As an Ohioan, my football options are OSU, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cincinnati Bengals. OSU already lost, and considering the ass-kicking they received in their previous bowl games, will not get into a BCS bowl unless they run the table. I doubt this will happen anyway.

The Browns, sadly, are terrible once again. Having no receiving corps, any big name running backs, or defense, they will probably live up to the 2-14 record Sports Illustrated projected for them this year.

The Bengals, won't make the playoffs, but at least they lose in interesting fashion.
It is a sad state of affairs when I envy Bengals fans.

However on the bright side, I won't waste my weekends inside...except for reading, D&D, videogames etc.
