The OED has made Sarah Palin's "refudiate" the word of the year. I don't know, I usually like British humor but this seems a little too dry even for my taste.
Here's a link to the NPR story
I think we should all make up words and propose them to the OED.
I propose "bigiot"
bigiot - noun, a person who is simultaneously bigoted and an idiot (e.g. "That Sarah Palin is a major bigiot")
bigiotry - noun, an action which displays one's idiocy and bigotry in one sublime action (e.g. Sarah Palin calling on "Peaceful Muslims" to "refudiate" the "Ground Zero Mosque" is an action of such breathtaking bigiotry that it leaves me almost speechless)
bigioted - adjective, the property of being simultaneously shockingly bigoted and impressively stupid

this is pretty gross. although its not the English that are to blame...this is all the Oxford American Dictionary (whatever that is).
ReplyDeletei like the word bigiot...its sad that we could never expect someone like palin to come up with a fake word that actually made sense.
That is absurd. What this country needs is a return to normalcy.
ReplyDeleteIt appears Mama Bear stumbled upon a novel portmanteau, although she probably thinks that is a type of wine.

ReplyDeletelooks like her family is using some new vocab too.
Well, supposedly, OED has accepted "bromance," "chillax," "cheeseball," "tweetup," and "defriend" as well:
